My story with Indonesia

My name is Guillaume Hervier, I'm 34 years old, I'm blind, I'm french and I'm head over heels in love with Indonesia — especially the island of Java.

Since 2016, I've lived through one thrilling adventure after another in this exotic land on the other side of the world.

2016

First trip to Java — filming a documentary with local visually impaired students in specialized schools.

2017

Married an Indonesian woman I met during that life-changing humanitarian trip.

Present

Back and forth between France and Java. Building our house in Gandrung, a small mountain village in the hills above Bandung.

Tailor-made support

This country moved me so deeply that I dream of sharing it with as many people as possible. Its delicious street food, warm-hearted people, postcard-perfect landscapes, and genuine character. This Southeast Asian archipelago offers a dizzying change of scenery that leaves no one indifferent.

You're visually impaired, like me, and you want to safely explore this colorful land that delights the senses.

You have another disability, and my knowledge of the area along with my sensitivity to difference give you the confidence to embark on an adventure you wouldn't dare attempt alone.

You have no particular difficulty, but you like my approach and would love for me to take you into my world.

Welcome — here's how we'll organize things.

1
First contact

You send me an email saying Indonesia calls to you. We quickly get on a call to talk it through.

2
Joining the group

I add you to a group of other travelers available on the same dates, and we prepare the trip together.

3
A-to-Z preparation

Flights, accommodation, packing, travel insurance — I advise you so you don't forget anything and keep the final bill as light as possible. You book everything yourself based on my recommendations. I'm not a travel agency, just an advisor.

4
On the ground

A trusted local agency I know, with whom you've booked excursions yourself, takes you day after day to the most beautiful spots in Java. I'm your personal translator — English and Indonesian — to make communicating with the guides easier.

My Java conference was a real success

Guillaume during the Java conference

Despite a few technical hiccups right at the start, my Java conference held in Angers on June 27 was a real success. Close to 35 people came to hear me talk about my travels across Southeast Asia and to enjoy Nenden's delicious cooking. Our Indonesian friend Wina also pitched in and helped enormously in pulling off the event. The AVH volunteers were fantastic too.
