We invite you to discover the city of Bandung, a charming university town known for its street food. Nestled between mountains and volcanoes, overlooked by tea and coffee plantations, this vibrant, refreshingly different city — full of life and genuine atmosphere — is sure to win you over.

Hiking the slopes of Tangkuban Perahu volcano

Less dramatic than its neighbors Bromo, Kawah Ijen, and Merapi, it's the perfect introduction to Indonesian volcanoes. You can soak in hot springs and climb up to breathtaking viewpoints over the surrounding landscape.

Museum visits

Bandung is home to two outstanding cultural venues: the Sribaduga Museum and the Geological Museum. Both are packed with fascinating information and exhibits on what makes Java unique: its centuries-old history, its diverse cultures, its seismic activity, and its fire-breathing giants.

A stroll through the Lembang countryside

Unlike the rest of the island, where the heat can be exhausting, the mountains around Bandung stay cool — rarely above 24 to 26°C — ideal for exploring the outdoors. Tropical forests, floating markets, strawberry farms: a refreshing breath of fresh air.

Tasting hot drinks

Southern Bandung is known for its tea and coffee plantations, and you can walk through them to learn more about how these plants — so present in our daily lives — are grown and harvested. At the end of this educational outing, steaming cups bursting with authentic flavor are offered to those who want to taste aromas that are 100% natural, worlds apart from the tea bags and coffee pods most of us use back home.

Immersion in a traditional village

My wife and I own a house in a small village perched at 1,000 meters, called Gandrung. We'd be delighted to welcome you there and show you what life is like for Indonesian farmers. For those who'd like to, we'll cook local dishes and share a meal together under the mango trees in the garden. We can also play and chat with the local children, who are always thrilled to spend time with Westerners.

Introduction to Sundanese music

The people native to Bandung and the surrounding area are called the Sundanese. They have a unique and fascinating culture, especially their music. There's a wonderful venue where concerts are performed daily, and audience members are invited to try their hand at the region's traditional instruments. If you're up for it, we'll join the orchestra for an afternoon.

Dinners at the night markets

As evening falls, the air in Bandung fills with mouthwatering smells. Cooks set up along the streets, preparing delicious food you'll want to try at every stall. We'll feast on spicy chicken, vegetables expertly seasoned with the archipelago's spices, peanut-sauce skewers, cassava fritters, freshly squeezed exotic fruit juices, and so many other wonders that one stomach won't be enough to fit it all in.

Swimming in the warm sea at Pangandaran

After these rewarding days spent in the buzz of Bandung, we can take the train to the coastal town of Pangandaran. There, the sea is as warm as bathwater, beach vendors hand out coconuts fresh off the tree, and the seafood served at the pier's restaurants is exquisite.

Shopping for local crafts

It would be a shame to head home without picking up a few souvenirs from Indonesia. Your guides will take you to the best craft shops to discover what the Javanese people create. Whether it's batik clothing (fabric shaped on the island using centuries-old techniques) or wonderfully unusual bamboo objects, you'll have plenty to fill your suitcase and spoil the people back home.
